Database Admin Team Leader

Responsibilities

Provides technical direction to team of database administrators responsible for deploying and managing physical databases.

Responsible for overall physical database structure for assigned databases.

Establishes performance tuning criteria and methods.

Reviews database performance statistics and direct improvements.

Maintains relationship with DBMS vendor and process of implementing upgrades.

Ensure high availability and reliability of all enterprise databases

Able to review metric reports and take appropriate action

Responsible for world class availability of complex applications for the CFG Business.

Has a good understanding of the business function which the complex applications supports and is viewed as a resource for the business to leverage for technology alternatives and solutions.

Responsible for Quality metrics related to Application availability and performance.

Has strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsible for Technical leadership and oversight for a moderate to large group of complex Application Systems.

Has an understanding of the technologies and skills required of the team to ensure accurate time and cost estimates and implementations for new and enhancement to existing applications.

Assigns resources to technical tasks and directs and reports on activities of the team.

Coordinates technical activities across several technology areas that are utilized by the Applications.

Is a mentor for team members and other technology teams as well.

Responsible for adherence of the Application team to follow department and corporate policies and procedures.

Provides leadership and direction in setting and administering department policies and procedures

Responsible for evaluation of performance of the team members.

Responsible for setting objectives and development plans for team members.

Responsible for various personnel actions (i.e. hiring; promotions; terminations; development action plans)

Has a good understanding of financial goals and challenges.

Makes recommendations to support these financial goals and challenges both within the technology team and across Enterprise Technology Services.

Supports application related projects by evaluating risks and implementing preventative measures and escalating as needed.

Able to prepare implementation plan and contingency plan for supported applications for moderate to large impact projects.

Can assume the role of Technical Project or Program Team Lead, as needed.

Provide support for after-hours activities such as upgrades and implementations that may occur on evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Is a point of technology escalation for complex implementations.
 

Qualifications

Typical Minimum Experience: 

• Minimum 7 year experience

• Minimum 5 years experience in architecting, installing and configuring DR and HA solutions

Knowledge: 

• Clear understanding of RDBMS fundamentals

• Banking or financial reporting experience helpful.

• Managerial skills

Technical: 

• Experience required in one of the following; DataComm, DB2 Mainframe v8, DB2 UDB v9, Oracle 10/11g, SQL 2005

• Hold certifications in one or more of the required database management systems.

• Experience required in one of the following; Windows, UNIX (AIX, Solaris, Linux), z/OS

• Strong SQL skills

• Experience using database monitoring tools.

• Expertise in backup/recovery/fail-over methods and best practices

• Experience scripting in UNIX required

• High Availability systems and Disaster Recovery experience

• Database replication knowledge

• Database security implementation and auditing experience

• Full lifecycle experience in software development environment

• Experience managing large (>1TB) database
 

Hours and Work Schedule

Hours per Week:   40

Work Schedule:    Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
