Responsibilities
Primary Function: The Public Affairs Manager will manage the development and execution of public relations strategies that support the organization’s public affairs efforts, including but not limited to the areas of charitable giving, local sponsorship, colleague volunteerism and community programs. The chief function of this position is to promote a favorable image of the bank’s community relations efforts and accomplishments to internal and external constituencies and audiences using both traditional and social media platforms.
Specific Responsibilities:

Increase awareness of Citizens’ commitment to the communities it serves through its public affairs programs to both internal and external constituencies.

Manage community media and social media efforts in Massachusetts, including creating and identifying story and photo opportunities that illustrate this commitment.

Develop and cultivate relations with appropriate media outlets and key community leaders to encourage coverage and recognition of Citizens’ public affairs programs.

Create news releases and other media materials, including, but not limited to, media advisories, briefs, fact sheets, question-and-answer documents, internal newsletters and other promotional materials that highlight public affairs programs.

Prepare speaking points for use by executives and other bank spokespersons during community meeting/events and media interviews.

Make recommendations on social media posts and secure third party endorsements.

Organize, coordinate and implement special projects and initiatives.

Prepare regular reports assessing media coverage of Citizens’ public affairs efforts in Massachusetts.

Manage department interns, day-to-day responsibilities and on-boarding / reviews; coordinate activities with local college or university; fulfill human resource risk and reporting requirements.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5-7 years experience in public/media relations, public affairs or related function

Strong interpersonal skills

Deep knowledge of print, broadcast and social media

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively across all levels of the company

Some previous management experience with direct supervision required

Strong self-management, people management skills, including the ability to manage time and workload against multiple and changing priorities and objectives

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Demonstrated success with media/press relations and social media

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint required
Hours and Work Schedule
Hours per Week: 40
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
